Kevin Foster, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Torbay, has welcomed figures showing that the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Torquay and Paignton has fallen by 728 over the last year.
This latest fall in unemployment is against the backdrop of 144,000 jobs being created across the South West Region since 2010.
The figures released by the Office for National Statistics follow recent news that 100 jobs will be coming to Paignton thanks to an investment by local Ceramics Company China Blue. In addition 38 full time, and 52 part time, jobs will be created by the South Devon Fisheries Project which won funding from the Coastal Communities Fund this week.
Kevin said: “As the sun shines on the bay, it is good to know more local people will be feeling the warmth of having earned a pay packet at the end of each month. The continuing fall in unemployment is a positive sign that our economy is growing and delivering new opportunities. The Long Term Economic Plan being delivered by the Conservatives in Government is making a difference for those looking for work in the bay.”
