Last week, local MP Kevin Foster joined a cross-party group of MPs and Peers, visiting some of the beaches and battlefields that saw some of the fiercest fighting during World War Two.
The trip was not just about understanding history, but to show support to an ally who has been under attack, and to pay tribute to the many thousands of servicemen that bravely fought for the countries, including those that still live in the Bay.
In 2014 the French Government chose to award the Legion d’Honneur to all remaining veterans as a sign of gratitude to those that had fought to liberate them. Yet 3 of these very brave servicemen living in the Bay are still waiting to receive theirs. Kevin has raised this on several occasions, writing to the Secretary of State for Defence again last week to request that the awards be expedited, and Kevin will continue to pressure the French Government until these men receive the recognition they so rightfully deserve.
