Local MP Kevin Foster attended the National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast last Tuesday, an annual event that recognises the contribution that Christianity makes to the national life of the UK.
Some 730 people, including 150 Parliamentarians and Peers and 50 diplomats, joined the Archbishop of Canterbury and other Church leaders to celebrate Christianity in the UK, and to discuss pressures facing the Church, both domestically and abroad, such as the alienation of Christians in the Middle East.
As a regular attendee at St Matthias Church, a proud Christian, and following messages from a number of constituents, Kevin was delighted to hear the Prime Minister reinforce the UK's obligation to provide aid and assistance to minority and religious groups in the Middle East facing threats to their continued existence from Daesh.
Kevin continues to monitor the situation in the Middle East, and will continue to press the Government on the issue of Daesh, including recognising their acts in Iraq and Syria as a genocide.
