Kevin Foster, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Torbay, has today (Thursday 15th May 2014) welcomed figures showing that the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Torquay and Paignton has fallen by 669 over the last year.
Since 2010 the number of people on unemployment benefits has fallen by 538. Jobs are being created at the new White Rock Business Park in Paignton and more investment is on the horizon as schemes like the £90m redevelopment of the Palace Hotel in Torquay are set to get underway.
Kevin said: “It’s great news there are now 669 fewer people on unemployment benefit in Torquay and Paignton then there was just over a year ago. That is hundreds of residents, and in many cases their families as well, with a more secure, brighter future ahead of them.
“With the economy growing, jobs being created and the South Devon Link Road being built it is clear the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is working for the bay, and the foundations of a broad based recovery are in place. Yet with just over 2,000 still on Unemployment Benefit we need to keep working through the plan, which is creating jobs, to give more people in our area who want to work hard and get on the security of a regular pay packet.”
