Blow For South West Water Customers as Labour axes £50 Government Contribution
The government contribution towards South West Water bills was originally introduced back in 2013, in recognition of the unique circumstances faced by our region, where 3% of the nation’s population live, but where we look after one third of the country’s coastline. The contribution directly benefitted customers by paying part of their water bill each year, with the amount shown on customers’ bills.
Labour Ministers have now confirmed it will end on 31st March 2025, with households across our region facing paying more for their water next year as a result.
Axing the Government Contribution towards water bills follows Labour’s cuts to the winter fuel allowance which has already seen most pensioners lose up to £300 of support towards their household bills.
Kevin Foster said: “This is another blow for households across our bay, including tens of thousands of pensioners who have already seen their winter fuel allowance cut by this Government. It is South West Water customers who will again be footing the bill for cleaning our nation’s coastline.”
