Compulsory purchase order made on eyesore Paignton site
I am delighted to hear a compulsory purchase order (CPO) has been made on the eyesore which is the Crossways Shopping Centre in Paignton as part of ambitious plans to regenerate the site.
This eyesore has blighted Paignton Town Centre for too long and is in urgent need of redevelopment. Plans include 90 extra care and sheltered affordable housing units for local people, with commercial space retained on the ground floor for businesses.
The CPO was made at the end of August and notices were served on Wednesday 16th September with a two week notice period.
Torbay Council agreed in September 2019 to purchase the site, following campaigning by residents, councillors and the local Community Partnership to do something with the site.
Extra care housing is also known as assisted living and residents will have their own self-contained flats but with staff available to provide personal care and support services.
You can view the Compulsory Purchase Order notice on Torbay Council's website.
Demolition works cannot start a moment too soon.
