Parliamentary candidate Kevin Foster visited Hayes School on 8th November 2019 and spent considerable time talking with the children about their aspirations and their thoughts about democracy and the current system. Mr Foster received a tour of the school followed by a question and answer session with pupils.
Hayes School received an Ofsted Inspection in October and were judged as ‘good’ in all of the five inspection areas, having been the first school in Torbay to be inspected under the new Ofsted inspection framework.
The Headteacher, Mark Hanbury said ‘I am really proud of all of the hard work from staff and pupils to achieve this and would like to thank all of our parents and carers for the overwhelming support, not just through the inspection process, but during my time at the school’.
In 2019, Hayes School achieved results significantly above national averages in SATs and the progress of children is above average in Reading and Writing and well above average in Maths.
Mr Hanbury commented ‘We were delighted that Mr Foster chose to visit Hayes School. It has been a great opportunity for us to showcase the significant improvements we have made as a school and for him to meet our pupils, staff and Governors. Our School is committed to achieving even further improvements and I am now very excited for the opportunity to continue to lead Hayes School as we aspire to be Outstanding.”
Mr Alex Howarth (Chair of Governors) congratulated the Headteacher Mr Mark Hanbury, his senior leadership team and all staff and pupils at the school. ‘This recognition from Ofsted is well deserved. Mr Hanbury and the team have shown great leadership qualities in securing this positive outcome and all staff, pupils, parents and Governors can be rightly proud of Hayes School’.
Mr Foster commented ‘The Ofsted report was very positive and from my visit today I could see, first hand, how happy, articulate and enthusiastic the children at Hayes are. I can see how all of the hard work from Mr Hanbury and the team, has made this a school of choice for parents in Paignton.’
