Local MP Kevin Foster was interviewed on BBC Spotlight about the closure of Torquay Magistrates' Court.
Kevin has been clear both in public, and in private with Government Ministers, that he does not agree with this decision, and he recently presented a petition to Parliament containing signatures of over 500 local residents urging the Government not to close the Court.
Now that the decision has been made, Kevin is lobbying Michael Gove and the Ministerial team to ensure that at least some elements of justice remain in Torquay. Many of the Torquay Magistrates' Court functions will be moving to Newton Abbot. Although geographically not far, Kevin is firmly of the view that local justice works best and is seen to be most effective when it is precisely that - local.
Kevin will continue to lobby the Government hard on this in the coming weeks.
