Local MP Kevin Foster was delighted to welcome the 3 very proactive Headteachers of our local grammar schools to Westminster this morning.
They went on to meet Schools Minister Nick Gibb MP at the Department of Education for an extremely useful hour-long meeting, where they lobbied the Minister and officials face-to-face and explained the practicalities of their current budget issues.
Torbay is lucky to have 3 Headteachers who are so willing to travel to London at short notice for such a meeting, and Kevin felt that it was one of the best meetings with Government Ministers that he has had.
There is no room for complacency, and the campaign to maintain funding of our fantastic grammar schools at their current level continues - Kevin will continue to lobby Ministers both in private and public.
It's worth remembering that Torbay as a whole will see a funding increase based on the National Funding Formula proposals, however our grammar schools will see a drop in funding.
Thank you again to Headteachers - Pete Lawrence, Bob Owers and Dr Nick Smith - pictured above with Kevin and Schools Minister Nick Gibb MP
