This morning, local MP Kevin Foster met with representatives from Virgin Media to help announce their plans for a significant new investment in the Bay's fibre optic broadband network.
'Project Lightning' will see over 42,000 premises connected to Virgin's ultrafast broadband network, with speeds of up to 300Mbps soon to be available to residents and businesses.
Kevin said: “I am delighted that thousands of local homes and businesses will soon be connected to ultrafast broadband. This investment, bringing speeds of up to 300Mbps, is great news for keeping the bay connected and driving forward our economy. It is great that Virgin Media is not just talking about improving our digital infrastructure, but picking up a trowel to do so.”
Work has already begun in Torquay to connect almost 24,000 new premises and is expected to be completed across the county before the end of 2019.
