Local MP Kevin Foster today raised the deplorable acts of vandalism at St Martin's Church in Barton in person with Devon and Cornwall Police Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer.
Seventy stained glass windows in the church were smashed over a period of three nights, resulting in £25,000 worth of damage.
Constituents who initially reported this matter to local police on the 2nd of October were advised that Torquay Police did not have the resources to look in to the matter, a reaction which has deeply concerned Kevin and members of the local community.
Kevin feels that had Torquay Police at least sent a patrol car to the area on the 2nd of October when the initial acts of vandalism were reported, this may have deterred the further acts of vandalism on the next two nights.
Kevin has raised this matter today in person with the Chief Constable, and has been assured that Devon and Cornwall Police are taking this matter very seriously and will be looking in to it further.
