There are times when a victim may feel the sentence which has been handed down by the Court does not fit the crime.
This may reflect the law, but at other times a sentence may be “unduly lenient” and therefore in need of review by the Court of Appeal. This referral is done by the Attorney General and she can be asked to consider doing so by anyone concerned about a sentence being “unduly lenient”, this includes victims of crime.
Recently the statistics for the Unduly Lenient Sentencing Scheme for 2021 were published. Earlier today Kevin Foster MP asked the Solicitor General about how many referrals by the Attorney General were based on representations to her from victims and what work is being done to promote this opportunity for them to do so.
