A number of constituents have contacted me over the weekend regarding the unacceptable situation in parts of the bay with the Tor 2 refuse collections. Some residents have now gone two weeks without a collection, which Tor 2 has attributed to staff shortages and equipment failure.
Constituents and council tax payers have a right to a significantly better service from Tor 2 than they are currently receiving, and nor is it all about better communications as has been claimed by some.
I have been in contact with the Council today and have urged them to work proactively with Tor 2 over the next couple of days to carry out additional collections in the areas affected, including Goodrington and parts of Paignton.
Going forward, senior management at Tor 2 need to urgently be made aware of the potential effect on their contract as a consequence of this appalling service. Torbay Council should also consider moving to one of the alternative collection methods used by other councils which may improve the service.
I will monitor this closely over the coming days, and will keep constituents updated.
