Local MP Kevin Foster is pleased to declare his support for Home Secretary and Maidenhead MP Theresa May as next Conservative leader, and the United Kingdom's next Prime Minister.
Commenting on the reasons for his decision, Kevin said,
Following the decision of the British people in the EU Referendum last week, it is clear to me that what is required now is an experienced and tough leader, who is proven at the highest levels of Government.
Theresa May has been an excellent Home Secretary for the last six years. She has managed a reduction in the Home Office budget, while also overseeing a sharp fall in recorded crime. Theresa has taken on difficult vested interests when required, including challenging the Police Federation, seeking justice for the victims of Hillsborough, and resolving outstanding issues relating to the Stephen Lawrence case. As Home Secretary, she has also blocked the extradition of Gary McKinnon to the US and travelled to Jordan to arrange the successful extradition of Abu Qatada.
Theresa May's track record in Government is a considerable one.
I feel we now need an experienced leader who can build bridges, allow the country to come together, plus someone who can be an effective leader of a team. I met Theresa for a face-to-face meeting this week, and I believe that she is highly competent and effective.
After 26 years, it is also high time that the UK had its second female Conservative Prime Minister.'
