Local MP Kevin Foster today took the opportunity to raise a pensions concern of a number of people within the Bay, asking Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, whether any proposed changes to the British Steel Pension Scheme would be ring-fenced to that scheme only.
With a number of constituents being affected by the uncertainty surrounding the future of BHS, Kevin wanted to ensure that their pension schemes would be unaffected should any changes be made to the British Steel Pension Scheme.
The Secretary of State agreed that existing pension safeguards provide support when things do go wrong, but the unique situation facing the Steel Industry means that all options should be considered.
