Work to end homelessness was on the agenda in parliament today, as for the second week in a row Kevin was picked to ask a question at Prime Minister’s Questions.
The cost and availability of housing is a key issue for many working families in our bay, especially with increasing rents. Over the last 4 years Torbay Council had a poor record of delivery on new affordable homes. Yet since the change of control in May the Conservative Leadership of the Council has moved to finally unblock delayed housing schemes, as part of work to tackle homelessness.
Ahead of the Autumn Statement Kevin had written to the Chancellor raising the issue of needing to unfreeze the local housing allowance to reflect increased rents, plus raised the need to yet again look at how we can push forward regeneration schemes which would deliver housing during the debate on the King’s Speech.
Kevin also took the chance to highlight the work of Unleashed Theatre Company, which is based in Torquay. Unleashed is a Community Theatre Company working with the Homeless and Recovery Communities in Torquay, which is now based at the Royal Lyceum Theatre.
