Petition to Reinstate Bus Services
Thank you to the hundreds of local residents who signed the petition organised by Val Baker, which was part of the long running campaign for the re-instatement of a Bus Service covering the route of the previous Number 65.
It has been a hard-fought campaign which included presenting the petition to Parliament. There have also been several protests highlighting the plight of elderly residents who were forced to struggle (in poor weather) with heavy shopping bags the long distance from their home to the nearest Bus Stop, with the only alternative being to pay for a taxi.
I therefore wanted to update you on progress following the recent protest held in St Anne’s Road, which called on Torbay Council to make a decision on a business plan which was presented to them some months ago.
Following this demand, I have just received confirmation the “Capital Scheme Business Case for the proposal for Community Bus Services 60, 65 and 67” has now been agreed by Torbay Council, meaning Bus Services will return.
Full details of the new service will be released shortly, following the plan being formally signed off, but I hope you will be pleased to hear this latest news. This result would not have been possible without Val, her army of volunteers and everyone who supported the campaign.
I will write again when there is further news.
With my very best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Foster MP
