Torquay's Historic Pavilion is set to see major regeneration and repair work start after a £10m deal, supported by £4m of funding from the Conservative Government, was agreed.
Torbay's Conservative MP Kevin Foster and the Conservative Leadership of Torbay Council have worked to get this plan together. Since taking control in May, the new Conservative Administration has focused on securing a deal which will not only get repair work underway, but deliver a long-term future for the Pavilion as a cultural & historic showpiece for our bay.
The deal now signed, will see MDL surrender its current lease on The Pavilion and pay towards its repair, with the Government providing funding to support it being reopened as a new cultural venue. The further £20m announced by the Conservative Government for Torquay's Regeneration in October provided a vital £2m funding boost for the emerging Pavilion plans, in addition to the £2m of funding already on offer from the Government's £21.9m Torquay Town Deal.
Kevin Foster MP said: "The negotiations were touch and go for the last few months, as I engaged with all the parties involved to help reach an agreement. Once this deal was done, which will save the Pavilion for the long-term and re-open it to the public, it felt like Christmas had come early for our bay!"
