Local MP Kevin Foster was dismayed to be told that seven Poppy Appeal boxes were stolen around Torquay over Remembrance Day Weekend.
The thefts occurred between Friday 11th November and Monday 14th November, at a time when we should all have been paying our respects to the fallen and honouring our veterans.
The valuable work undertaken by the two branches of the Royal British Legion we have in Torbay ensures that our local heroes continue to receive the support and help they need after serving our country so valiantly. The Poppy Appeal provides much needed additional funding, so the theft of these boxes, especially over Remembrance Weekend, is particularly abhorrent.
Kevin said, "Over the weekend we saw thousands of people turn out to pay their respects to those who gave their lives for the freedoms that we all enjoy today.
"Stealing a poppy collection tin over Remembrance Weekend is as low as it gets.
"I hope the police will make every effort to find whoever has committed these crimes, and I hope that justice will be served accordingly."
