Too many low-income pensioner households across our bay are missing out on the boost Pension Credit could provide.
Getting Pension Credit can not only provide a direct financial boost worth more than £3,500 on average to vulnerable pensioners, but also open up additional support such as help with housing costs and council tax. Yet often people miss out due to not claiming.
Torbay MP Kevin Foster is encouraging low-income pensioner households, not already getting Pension Credit to check their eligibility. This is especially important this month as households can still qualify for the £301 Cost of Living Payment, which started being paid this week, if they make a successful backdated Pension Credit application by 19 May.
It's easy to check eligibility online via the online calculator (www.gov.uk/pension-credit-calculator). A friend or relative can help someone do so.
Earlier this week Kevin asked Ministers what work is being done to engage with High Street Banks who would be aware of their customers who are vulnerable, appear to be on a low income and are over the State Pension Age, to ensure they get the Pension Credit they may be eligible for.
