Torbay’s MP Kevin Foster has welcomed confirmation Torbay will receive £1,235,357 to support vulnerable households with essentials over the coming months from the Government’s new £500m Household Support Fund.
The funding will be distributed locally by Torbay Council, including for example, through small grants to meet daily needs such as food, clothing, and utilities. This fund bolsters support from the Warm Home Discount which provides a £140 rebate on energy bills each winter to over 2.2 million low-income households and the Cold Weather Payment which provides £25 extra a week for poorer households when the temperature is consistently below zero.
Earlier this year the government expanded the £220 million Holiday Activities and Food programme, which has offered nutritious meals and enriching activities to disadvantaged children across the Easter and Summer holidays, and will do so again this Christmas.
Commenting Kevin Foster MP said: “This additional funding is welcome news and will allow additional support to be provided to those families in our bay in need of some extra help this winter.”
