Local MP Kevin Foster has been advised by a number of residents and businesses in Torbay of their belief that ex-offenders from all over England are being relocated to Torbay on leaving prison. Kevin was concerned about this, and recently wrote to the head of the National Probation Service in London to determine if any such strategies were in place.
Today Kevin has received confirmation from the divisional director of the National Probation Service that they are ‘unaware of any national probation strategy to transfer any ex-offenders to Torbay’. While Kevin is encouraged having received this news, he will be seeking a further meeting in the near future with the National Probation Services divisional director for South West England to further discuss the arrival of ex-offenders in Torbay.
