Kevin Foster, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Torbay, has welcomed figures showing that the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Torquay and Paignton has fallen by 680 over the last year, a drop of 30% since August 2013.
Since 2010 the number of people on unemployment benefit in Torquay and Paignton has fallen by 730, a drop of 32%, with more jobs on the way as work on the South Devon Link Road continues, helping spur future growth.
Kevin said: “As our nation approaches an historic day of destiny the news that Unemployment is continuing to fall shows the strength not only of the UK economy, but also the benefit growth is bringing for local job seekers. People across the bay are finding real jobs and getting off benefits and back into work.”
“There is still more to do in ensuring the bay regenerates and develops new opportunities, but this news is another step in the right direction.”
