There was further news last week on funding for vital works to improve and strengthen the coastal railway at Dawlish as Network Rail unveiled its five-year plan.
Since 2014 politicians and business leaders from across the region have been calling for a long-term solution to protect our vital rail link. Progress has been made with design work on a major scheme, yet in the meantime the line must be kept open.
The latest plans envisage £35m being spent strengthening the line at Dawlish, along with plans to boost train services to two per hour between Plymouth and Penzance. Work will also be undertaken to increase train speeds by improving the tracks between Totnes and Hemerdon. You can read more on the Devon Live website by clicking here.
This is welcome news, but the campaign for a major investment project to be completed securing the line for a generation will continue.
