Local MP Kevin Foster today spoke in the Avian Influenza Debate in Westminster Hall.
The UK is currently suffering from a significant outbreak of avian flu. Kevin raised in his speech how this outbreak has impacted our much valued local zoo in Paignton.
Paignton Zoo experienced the first avian flu outbreak in England and was forced to temporarily close, with significant loss of income. Current Government measures to mitigate against the disease focus on farmed birds and wild birds. Kevin called on the DEFRA Minister, Mark Spencer MP, to introduce a separate set of measures for zoos, recognising the the conservation work they do and their financial position.
