The Supreme Court today ruled that Parliament must vote on whether the Government can start the Brexit process.
This means that the Prime Minister cannot begin talks with the EU over exiting until Parliament gives its backing. The Government has responded by promising a Parliamentary Bill on this 'within days' meaning that the Bill is expected to pass in time for the Government's 31st March deadline for triggering Article 50.
Local MP Kevin Foster was in the House of Commons Chamber to hear Brexit Secretary David Davis MP's statement. Kevin spoke after the statement and urged the Minister not to allow other parties to use 'tricks' to subvert the will of the people, both in Torbay and throughout the UK, because the majority in both decisively voted to Leave.
Kevin is particularly dismayed that the 9 Liberal Democrat MPs in Parliament, who make up less than 1.4% of the House of Commons, have reaffirmed their vow to thwart the democratic will of the British people in leaving the EU.
Perhaps it is time they dropped the Democrat from Liberal Democrats?
