The South West looks set to receive billions of pounds to improve the region’s road infrastructure, with the key A303 route set to be transformed.
In a speech given to the CBI in London, the Prime Minister announced today that over £15bn will be invested in a ‘roads revolution’ that will be the most far-reaching road improvement programme in four decades.
The Prime Minister said: “The green light given to major projects that have been stalled for years. Action to improve some of the most important arteries in our country – like the A303 and the A1 – which for too long have held parts of our country back.”
Kevin Foster, Prospective Conservative MP for Torbay, welcomed the news, saying: “This announcement is absolutely fantastic and follows the positive recent visits to South Devon by Patrick McLoughlin & George Osborne where I highlighted the need for investment in our key route.
Injecting this kind of funding into the A303 will have a huge positive impact on the entire region and will benefit hundreds of businesses. This Government has said over and over again that it wants to improve this region’s infrastructure. Today’s announcement proves that they want to put our region on the highway to the future.”
