Kevin Foster, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Torbay, has today (Monday 7th July 2014) welcomed £6.4m of Government Investment in three key local projects as part of a £270m package of public and private investment for the Heart of the South West LEP area.
Through the Growth Deal announced today the Heart of the South West LEP has secured £130.3m from the Government’s Local Growth Fund. This includes a £3.4m investment in the Torquay Gateway project, a £0.4m investment in 2015/16 for better access to Torquay Town Centre and £2.6m of loan funding to accelerate the delivery of 350 new homes at Whiterock in Paignton.
Kevin said: “This funding is a real boost for the bay and shows the Government’s commitment to delivering growth for the long term. The Torquay Gateway Project represents a once in a generation opportunity to not only develop job opportunities, but the vision that will greet visitors as they reach the bay at the end of the long awaited South Devon Link Road.”
“The funding for Torquay Town Centre is a sign of the continuing commitment to revitalising our local high streets and supporting independent traders. Improving access into our Town Centre will bring lasting benefits in terms of increased trade and investment as part of the long term plan for its future.”
