On Monday, local MP Kevin Foster teamed up with wildlife charity Buglife and Torbay Council to launch the Big Pollinator Survey, part of the 'Torbay's Buzzing' project which aims to stop the decline of bees, butterflies and other pollinators in Torbay.
Residents are being asked to visit their nearest green space, whether garden or local park and to complete a short survey, with no prior knowledge required. The survey will provide conservation experts with much needed knowledge on bees, and can be used to protect both bee numbers and British crops, around 30% of which rely on pollination.
Kevin said "One of the most regular issues raised with me by residents is the future of the bee and the need to protect our nations' busiest pollinators. The Big Pollinator Survey is not just a chance to call for action, but to take action yourself and make a real difference."
Helping to launch the survey is in addition to the pledge made by Kevin last month to preserve the ban on neonicotinoid pesticides - pesticides which harm bees and that have been banned in the European Union since 2013.
