Torre Post Office
Kevin Foster met with the Post Office’s regional manager and operational manager to discuss the proposed closure of their Torre Branch.
In the meeting they claimed they had not received any interest from other businesses in taking the Post Office service on and argued the longer hours might be of benefit. In response I made clear the strong view of many in the community that the current location, in the heart of a shopping centre made more sense, not least given the loss of other banking services nearby. I pointed out how Lloyds had cited the ability of their customers to use the nearby Post Office as one of the ways they were mitigating the impact of closing their branch.
Overall the meeting was a courteous, but firm, exchange of views with little sign of them wanting to change their view at this stage, but they did allude to getting a lot of feedback via the consultation.
They also attended the recent public meeting organised by the Torre & Upton Community Partnership. This meeting happened on Thursday 8th November at St Mary Magdalene’s Church (Church Hall).
If you live in the Torre & Upton area it is important to have your say on this plan. You can do this on the Post Office website by visiting https://www.postofficeviews.co.uk/liveconsultation.php and entering the Branch code number 18955299
